Thank you so much for your participation in the tissue collection event for the Susan G. Komen Tissue Bank at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center on Thursday, April 9, 2026, being held at the Women's Clinic at the cancer center, 1030 W. Michigan St.
You are scheduled to arrive at «Arrive_Time». The entire process should take about 60-90 minutes to complete. The steps include completing an Informed Consent, answering a medical history questionnaire, having blood drawn, and donating your tissue. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Before Thursday, please watch our Standardized Informed Consent presentation HERE. If you don’t have a chance to do it before you come, we will have a couple of stations for you to watch it before you meet with one of our research team members.
To walk through the process alongside an actual donor, you can also view our video entitled “What Is It Like” by clicking HERE.
The event will be held at Women's Clinic at the cancer center, 1030 W. Michigan St.
If you are attending the Alpha Kappa Alpha Central Regional Conference and would like to take the complimentary shuttle to the tissue collection event, please contact Alison Hughes, alisnide@iu.edu or 317-407-5792 (call or text), to let us know you will need this service. The shuttle will make a continuous route, picking up and dropping off at the JW Marriott, the Marriott Downtown, and the tissue collection event location. There will be KTB volunteers at each stop (holding a sign) as well as on the shuttle itself. The shuttle will start at the JW promptly at 5 p.m., and will continue to run until the last participant is returned to her hotel.
Items of importance that you need to know are your current medications, menstrual history (the age in which you had your first period and the date of your last period), and your family breast cancer history. In the past, some of our donors have suggested wearing a sports bra for ease and comfort but this is not required.
If you are now unable to keep your appointment, please contact me immediately by email, keridley@iu.edu or phone 317-274-4051 as soon as possible so that we can allow someone else to use your appointment time. If something should arise on Saturday that will prevent you from coming, please call Kathi Ridley-Merriweather at (317) 319-6337. Please use this last number only on Friday night after 3 p.m., or on Saturday, the day of the event.
Again, we at the Komen Tissue Bank thank you for your time and donation.
