Leadership Academy

Leadership Academy Goals

  • Identify and select early to mid-level members likely to become future leaders in the cancer center
  • Provide personal leadership skills training
  • Stimulate networking and mentorship opportunities
  • Expand skills for effective communication, including media training, conflict management, and speaking
  • Develop proficiencies outside traditional training (e.g., health policy, advocacy, community engagement, social media, and philanthropy)
  • Identify strategic challenges for the cancer center and explore solutions through specific projects

This program requires a time commitment. Mentees must be invested in the process, and the interaction with all of the mentees is a critical component of this program. Those who cannot commit to monthly meetings and quarterly half-day sessions should not apply. Graduating mentees will be formally recognized by center leadership and receive a certificate acknowledging their accomplishments.

Check back in early 2026 for information about the application process.

Program Format

Leadership Academy participants during a December 2025 meeting.

Six to eight participants will be accepted into the annual program and are expected to attend and actively participate in monthly live meetings. Prior to initiation of the program, a short survey will be sent to participants to determine areas of highest interest. Adaptation and modifications are to be expected. In addition to the leadership and communication skills training, the participants will be assigned to two or more groups to work on strategic planning for key project areas (to be decided by the Leadership Council).
