Research Labs

The home of innovative immunotherapy research

The Brown Center for Immunotherapy is home to an array of accomplished principal investigators, brilliant postdocs, and emerging scientists — all of whom are doing some amazing things.

We’re developing new CAR T cell vectors, searching for novel molecular targets, collaborating on vaccine clinical trials, decoding the tumor microenvironment, and digging deep into big data.

Principal investigators at the Brown Center are …

  • Full members of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • Full professors with the IU School of Medicine (many in endowed positions)
  • Affiliated with one or more cancer center research programs
  • Longtime academic mentors with dozens of publications
  • Funded by world-renowned research organizations
  • Leaders in medical societies, editorial boards, and other industry activities

Let’s take a closer look!

The Salman Lab

Huda Salman, MD, PhD — Don Brown Professor of Immunotherapy

The major focus of the Salman lab is to develop new CAR T cell vectors, and to test what CAR construct is best for what tumor immune environment. Once this is defined, we will translate that to clinical trials.

The Apetoh Lab

Lionel Apetoh, PhD — Christopher Brown Professor of Immunology

The major focus of my research laboratory is to investigate the relationships between T lymphocytes and anticancer immune responses. We’re searching for novel molecular targets that can be exploited to endow T cells with superior anticancer activity.

The Kaumaya Lab

Pravin Kaumaya, PhD — Professor of Microbiology & Immunology

Dr Kaumaya’s  work is on tumor peptide vaccines. He is transferring two clinical trials from Ohio State. He also is collaborating with Dr. Salman to develop a PD1 vaccine trial in lymphomas.

The Han Lab

Leng Han, PhD — David Brown Professor of Genomic Medicine

We aim to utilize cutting-edge techniques in computational biology, RNA biology, and systems biology to identify novel prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies.

The Wang Lab

Yaoqi Alan Wang, PhD — Paige Brown Professor of Experimental Therapeutics

We focus on the immune landscape of glioblastoma and pancreatic cancer. We’re developing new  approaches to improve responses to immune-based therapy through defining mechanisms of response and resistance.
