Strategy and Management Succession Program (SAM@Simon)

The Office of Inclusive Excellence Strategy and Management Succession Program (SAM@Simon) seeks to provide clinical or research faculty and staff a safe space to enhance leadership and development skills and to accelerate participant’s careers with an in-depth understanding of the core concepts that drive academic cancer centers.

SAM@Simon is an intellectually rigorous, immersive, and highly experiential leadership development and succession planning program for those who contribute to the work and mission of the cancer center.

Although this program is specifically designed for individuals who are early to mid-career or have not previously accessed leadership training opportunities, it is open to all.

  • One Day In-Person Retreat
  • 4-Module Asynchronous Course that takes place from September to December

  • Cancer Center Hidden Curriculum
  • Different Perspectives in Leadership
  • Leadership Opportunities and Development
  • Mentorship and Sponsorship
  • Goals, Time Management, and Stress
  • Support and Conflict Resolution
  • Leadership Competency Assessments

  • Outstanding cancer center faculty or staff that displays talents, skills, and abilities for leadership
  • Letter of support from an executive sponsor, director, mentor, or manager
  • Completed nomination or self-nomination form
  • Ability to commit to a retreat and asynchronous course

Application submission deadline is July 31, 2025

Program dates: Retreat will occur mid-September 2025. Asynchronous course will occur September-December 2025.
