Cancer Research Day, the cancer center’s annual signature research event, aims to increase understanding and awareness of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Cancer's research endeavors and encourage collaboration with other cancer research institutions in Indiana.
Students, fellows, and faculty conducting cancer research at IU Indianapolis, Indiana University-Bloomington, Purdue University, and the Harper Cancer Research Institute — a collaboration between IU School of Medicine-South Bend and the University of Notre Dame — are eligible to present their current cancer research efforts at Cancer Research Day.
Cancer Research Day will be held on Thursday, May 8.
Application deadline is April 7 at 5 p.m.
Community-friendly research posters
The cancer center’s Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) is pleased to announce the second annual community-friendly research showcase at Cancer Research Day. Scholars that are seeking community input on planning, implementing, evaluating, and/or disseminating findings from your research study are encouraged to present a poster. Undoubtedly, the tone, level of detail, and key takeaways of scientific research should be tailored for the target audience to maximize impact, therefore, we encourage researchers to submit both a traditional scientific poster and a community-friendly poster. The traditional scientific poster will be eligible for awards through the Cancer Research Day categories noted above. The community-friendly poster will be eligible for the “Most Community Friendly Research Award” sponsored by the COE.
The COE seeks to showcase these cancer research posters at select community events throughout the year, therefore, the COE is happy to provide technical assistance, communication tools, and financial support towards the production of community-friendly posters highlighting the key takeaways from Indiana University, Purdue University, or University of Notre Dame cancer research. Because of the lead time for these activities, posters for the community-friendly research award will be due to the COE office at least two weeks prior to Cancer Research Day. Details will be emailed after abstract submissions. A group of diverse community members will be participating as judges to determine the winners of the Most Community Friendly Research Award.
Please note: Posters can be submitted for both traditional Cancer Research Day scientific posters as well as COE’s community-friendly poster.
