Research Funding Opportunities

Peer-review and pilot project support for cancer research

Research at IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is funded primarily by peer-reviewed agencies, such as the National Cancer Institute and other agencies of the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the American Cancer Society, and others.

In addition to funding by external organizations, cancer center members have access to pilot project funding for new or focused research.

Pilot Projects

American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant

Pilot funding for newly-independent investigators to initiate cancer research projects.

Cancer Biomarkers

For drug development and/or correlative biological assays to validate mechanism(s) of action of drug candidates, using our in-house Translational Research Core (TRC).

Cancer Drug Discovery and Development

Support of pilot projects focused on cancer drug discovery.

Community-Academic Collaborative Pilots

For pilot projects co-led by an IUSCCC faculty member, community advocate, or partner.

Donor-Led Initiatives

Support of cancer research through individual philanthropy, fundraising events, and donor-led initiatives.

“Near-Miss” Initiative

For projects with high potential for obtaining external funding that have been reviewed once and missed the NCI pay line.

Pilot Support of IITs

Support for investigator-initiated trials (ITTs) in clinical and translational research.

Research Program Support of Pilot Projects

Each IUSCCC research program (CPC, EDT, HHM and TMM) provides its members with pilot funding opportunities throughout the year.
