The Tissue Procurement & Distribution (TPD) team collects fresh, frozen and formalin fixed paraffin-embedded malignant solid tumors as well as histologically normal adjacent tissue, whole blood, plasma, serum, PBMC; bone marrow aspirate, urine, buccal cells, and pleural and ascites fluid.
We support time critical sample collection through immediate access to surgical and other clinical areas for sample collection within multiple facilities, including IU Health University Hospital, IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, IU Health Riley Hospital, IU Health North, Schwarz Cancer Center and Eskenazi Health.
Clinical annotation associated with collected samples including demographic information, pathological diagnosis, staging data, and treatment history are maintained in a secure LIMS database. Additional associated electronic health record (EHR) information can be provided in a de-identified manner for consented patients as needed for approved projects.
The Biospecimen Collection and Banking Core employs Manifold, a platform that connects silos of clinical and multi-omic data and automates its transformation into analysis-ready form, as a useful tool for our researchers. We encourage our researchers and principal investigators to make use of Manifold to build cohorts, assess feasibility of studies, cross-tab multiple variables, and analyze data.
