IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center research to be presented at 2024 ASCO, world’s leading oncology meeting
Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers will share their findings and expertise at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Findings on breast, lung, testicular, and pediatric cancers and cancer prevention are among the highlights of the more than 50 abstracts by cancer center researchers during the May 31-June 4 meeting in Chicago.
As the world’s leading organization of its kind, ASCO brings together oncology professionals from around the world each year for its annual meeting. The meeting regularly attracts more than 40,000 oncology professionals.
IU highlights include:
- Tarah Ballinger, MD, will present “ECOG-ACRIN EAZ171: Prospective validation trial of germline variants and taxane type in association with taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) in Black women with early-stage breast cancer.” These findings are part of an oral abstract session at 3 p.m. CT Monday, June 3. Chosen from more than 5,000 research abstracts that are part of the meeting, the study is part of the ASCO press program and among fewer than .5% that will be highlighted for media. The clinical trial was led by Bryan Schneider, MD. Kathy Miller, MD, is also an author on the abstract.
- Lois Travis, MD, is a panelist for the education session, Patient-Centered Care and Advances in the Treatment of Testis and Penile Cancer, on May 31. She will present “Long-Term Survivorship and Treatment Deintensification in Testis Cancer.”
- Suparna Chandra Clasen, MD, is a panelist for the case-based panel, “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Managing the Toxicities Associated With Renal Cell Carcinoma Therapy,” on June 3. She will present “Cardio-Oncologist Perspective.”
Cancer center members, fellows and IU School of Medicine researchers are authors on five oral abstract sessions and 35 poster abstracts. Another 13 abstracts will be included in the online publication. Each of these research abstracts was selected by the ASCO Scientific Program Committee from thousands of submissions.
