Inclusive Excellence

Quality health outcomes for Hoosiers:

Grow institutional philanthropy and community partnerships to improve outcomes for all Hoosiers across the state of Indiana

Closing the Care Gap

For World Cancer Day 2022, Cancer Center Director Kelvin Lee, MD, shared his conviction that inclusivity fosters innovation—and that it's our responsibility to eliminate the burden of cancer for everyone in Indiana and beyond.

We’re improving access to quality cancer care for all patients by:

  • Continuing to pioneer research on why and how cancer affects patients differently.
  • Making quality health resources available to all Hoosier communities as we know that many forms of cancer are related to environmental impacts. We believe that where you live should not determine how healthy you are.
  • Enhancing our training and recruitment efforts in our labs and clinics with the goal of training and hiring a workforce that reflects Hoosiers from across the state.

Cancer research for all

Chemotherapy type can be personalized to decrease harmful side effects for patients with breast cancer.

Researchers at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center have discovered that some patients with breast cancer who are treated with a chemotherapy called docetaxel experience less of a harmful side effect called peripheral neuropathy. Their findings represent an important shift in knowledge about a patient population who've historically been underrepresented in breast cancer research.
