Dr. Weaver's research interests include:
To date, my research has focused on human papillomavirus. I spent two years of my Infectious Dieases Fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Darron Brown. There, I worked on projects focusing on the molecular epidemiology of HPV in adolescent females. I developed a type-specific nested PCR for HPV 16 that was able to detect HPV DNA in vaginal samples that tested negative for HPV DNA with standard PCR testing. In my final year of fellowship, I transitioned to a behavioral focus on STI epidemiology. My current project will investigate the acquisition of genital and oral HPV infections and the behaioral correlates in adolescent males. I also plan to collaborate with Dr. Zimet on a project looking at the way physicians deliver the diagnosis of HPV diagnosis to females with abnormal Pap smears.
