My focus as a physician-scientist derives from clinical observations as fellow at Penn’s Cardio-Oncology Survivor Clinic, where young male testicular cancer survivors (TCS) would present with disproportionate metabolic derangements their age. With my transition to IU, and as the Medical Director of Cardio-Oncology at IU, I have built impactful, collaborative, multi-disciplinary relationships across specialties and collaborations with world leaders in Medical Oncology (Dr. Lawrence H. Einhorn and others) and clinical research (Dr. Lois B. Travis). Dr. Subha V. Raman lends her multimodality CV imaging expertise to my research and provides strong institutional support as the IU’s Chief of Cardiology. My rigorous subspecialty training has uniquely positioned me to merge Cardiology, Oncology, Imaging, and Epidemiology to improve CV care of testicular cancer survivors (TCS) by applying rigorous study design and methodology to my clinical research. My research aims to utilize sophisticated CV screening tools for those TCS at considerable risk for developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). My studies will develop a well-characterized TCS cohort for longitudinal studies, establish a basis for confirmatory studies in expanded subgroups of TCS, and pursue critical career development activities that afford significant discovery leading to clinical trials to prevent and preempt ASCVD in TCS.
