Fear of Cancer Recurrence

Waiting for the Other Shoe to Drop: Coping Effectively with Fear of Cancer Recurrence

Fear of recurrence is one of the most common and disruptive sources of distress during cancer survivorship. Even when recurrence risk is low, many survivors struggle with this understandable concern.

IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center researcher Shelley Johns, PsyD, studies fear of recurrence. In this Simon Says Expert Series session, she discusses how her research seeks to support survivors in effectively coping when struggling with anxiety related to “waiting for the other shoe to drop.”

IU School of Nursing Assistant Professor Andrea Cohee, PhD, also specializes in fear of recurrence and moderates the event.
