About Rana
Why do you do what you do? Or what brought you here?
I am the Biospecimen Manger, responsible for processing, storing, and distributing specimens as well as coordinating with researchers on their study cohort requests. Before stepping into this role, I worked at the Komen Tissue Bank research lab, where we focused on studying molecular alterations in healthy breast tissues to better understand breast cancer risks and susceptibility. Being part of this unique biobank gives me the opportunity to support studies that bring us closer to finding a cure for breast cancer.
Favorite KTB story/experience?
My favorite experience with the KTB was during my first tissue collection event in New York City. Not only did I have the chance to work with the incredible KTB team and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, but I also personally donated blood and tissue to the bank. Working in the lab afterward, I truly understood the profound impact that healthy tissue donations have on advancing breast cancer research. I truly appreciate the participants who selflessly contribute to this vital cause!
Other passions in life:
Spending time with family and friends, gardening, and cooking.
People would be surprised to know that you…
I took a few years off from the lab bench and opened my own floral business. I enjoyed the creativity of making floral arrangements and bringing smiles to people’s faces with my flowers.
Ice cream or pizza?
Pizza.
