Cancer center researchers share findings at 2023 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium
Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers will share their findings and expertise at the 2023 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, the most influential gathering of breast cancer researchers and physicians in the world.
The symposium, taking place Dec. 5-9 in San Antonio, brings together researchers and physicians from more than 90 countries.
Research from the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is part of one general session and several poster sessions.
Cancer center highlights include:
- Kathy Miller, MD, also with the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, is among the authors of “Magnetic Resonance Imaging and a 12-Gene Expression Assay to Optimize Local Therapy for Ductal Carcinoma In Situ: 5-year clinical outcomes of E4112,” which is part of a general session.
- Harikrishna Nakshatri, PhD, is the lead author of “Deciphering Biological Differences Between Normal Breast Tissues in Men and Women Using Single Cell Sequencing and In Vitro Modeling,” part of a poster session. Using tissue donated to the Komen Tissue Bank at IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, the findings highlight the first model system to study breast cancer in men, starting with breast tissues of healthy men.
- “View from the Trenches: What Will You Do on Monday Morning?”, a panel discussion with Richard Zellars, MD, as a panelist. Zellars also served on the symposium’s program planning committee.
Cancer center members, trainees and IU School of Medicine researchers’ findings included in the poster sessions are Adedeji Adebayo, Tarah Ballinger, MD; Poornima Bhat-Nakshatri; Michele Coté, PhD; Benjamin J. Fischer; Hongyu Gao, PhD; Aditi Khapte; Yunlong Liu, PhD; Kathy Miller, MD; Harikrishna Nakshatri, PhD; Mateusz Opyrchal, MD, PhD; Bryan Schneider, MD; Anna Maria Storniolo, MD; Richard Zellars, MD; and Gregory Zimet, PhD.
