With a record 169 abstracts, the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Cancer Research Day, held last month, highlighted some of the best cancer research being conducted by students, fellows and faculty from Indiana University-Indianapolis, Indiana University-Bloomington, Purdue University, and the Harper Cancer Research Institute.

Visit COE’s booth at Indiana Black & Minority Health Fair

Held in conjunction with the Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration, the weekend-long Indiana Black & Minority Health Fair is Thursday, June 27 - Sunday, June 30 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The cancer center's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) will have a booth with information on cancer prevention and early detection, tobacco cessation, and clinical trials. More than 10,000 community members are expected to attend.

Welcome to new cancer center staff members

Vicki Clements has joined the cancer center’s administration team as a program management specialist. She will be managing the pilot project program, working with the research program leaders to issue RFAs, organizing reviews and managing the yearly progress reports.

Vicki was most recently with the Department of Mental Health Services and has been with IU and IU Health for about 15 years, including some time with the Division of Hematology/Oncology.

She will work a hybrid schedule with an on-campus office in Walther Hall (R3), suite 528. She can be reached at vlclemen@iu.edu or 274-3053. 

Rachael Hyndman has joined the cancer center’s administration team as a program management assistant. She will be working closely with Kristin Scott to plan education events, including Grand Rounds and the Seminar Series, assist with research program meetings and logistics, planning for the external advisory board, and many other related conferences and symposiums. She will also assist with the summer research programs.

She has been with IU and IU Health for about 10 years, making her  familiar with policies and procedures with IU systems.

Burger Bash raises record amount for cancer research

The 2024 BurgerBash delivered by ClusterTruck raised more than $32,000, a record amount, to accelerate cancer research at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. Co-hosted by IndyCar’s Curt Cavin and NBC Sports reporter Kevin Lee, the night was filled with all things Indy 500 and, most importantly, a shared commitment to finding a cure for cancer.
