Dr. Turchi's research interests include:
Our research is focused on determining the molecular mechanism by which cisplatin imparts its efficacy. We are involved in the identification and development of agents that target specific proteins involved in cisplatin metabolism with the goal of enhancing cisplatin activity in tumors and cancer types that typically do not respond well to cisplatin. We are also involved in research geared towards understanding the interaction of cisplatin and ionizing radiation and how this treatment regimen influences DNA repair pathways. The goal of this research is to enhance the radiosensitization activity of cisplatin. Our final research goal addresses the identification of markers which are measures of chemotherapeutic responsiveness. In this project we employ proteomic analysis in a cisplatin resistant ovarian cancer model.
