Dr. O'Leary's research interests include:
The overall interests of the O'Leary laboratory are to understand how components of the bone marrow microenvironment (specifically hypoxia/hypoxia sensitive proteins) modify normal/malignant hematopoietic stem cell phenotype, signaling, function, response to therapy, and niche preference. Novel techniques, currently under development in the laboratory, will help us to perform phenotypic, mechanistic, and functional experiments that were previously impossible, which we believe may modify how we think about therapeutic targets in leukemia. Our goals are to use this information to discover therapeutic pathways that diminish leukemic cell growth/survival/relapse while enhancing normal hematopoietic stem cell engraftment.
