Understanding Risk Factors, Diagnosis and Treatment
The fifth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, ovarian cancer is primarily diagnosed in postmenopausal women and currently there are no effective preventative screening tools. Once a diagnosis is made, surgery and chemotherapy are typically both needed for successful treatment. However, several advances in the treatment of ovarian cancer use precision genomics, which guides individualized treatment for patients.
In this Simon Says session, gynecologic oncologists Lisa Landrum, MD, PhD, and Sharon Robertson, MD, MPH, discuss risk factors for ovarian cancer as well as risk reduction strategies and recent advances in its treatment.
