The cancer center’s communications and information technology teams and their strategic partner, Stamats Inc., earned a Merit Award in the 2025 Digital Health Awards in the “Web-based Digital Health, Science Storytelling and Website Redesign” category. This award reflects the teams’ dedication to sharing impactful stories of discovery, innovation, and collaboration in cancer research and creative website design.
Working alongside Stamats, the cancer center launched its current website in August 2022. Since then, the homepage has repeatedly changed, focusing on major center news, milestones, and awareness campaigns.
“We function similarly to a newsroom, with new content created regularly about our researchers’ important work and other news about the cancer center,” Michael Schug, communications director, said. “That new content means we’re often changing our front door — the homepage of our website — and informing and educating our visitors about cancer research and education.”
“We always talk about how your teams are the gold standard among all our clients for continually refreshing your website. We know how hard your teams work to keep content and stories fresh for your website visitors,” Lisa Starkey-Wood, vice president of enrollment strategy at Stamats, said.
The communications team is composed of Candace Gwaltney, Mika Mokko, Sammy Essex, Betsy Cooney, and Schug. The IT team is composed of Jeff Johnson, Josh Nichols, Dennis Pund, and Patrick Hanson.
