Derrick Hawkins has returned to the cancer center as a project management specialist for the IT department. He will help ensure the cancer center’s needs are being met by the various IU IT departments such as HTS, UITS, telecom, etc. He will also help coordinate small to large IT projects, improving the IT department’s ability to keep up with the increasing needs of our growing cancer center.

Amanda Massey joined the IUSCCC development team as senior director of development. Amanda’s work will focus on breast, ovarian and GI cancers, as well as testis cancer. She will also serve as the development team’s diversity, equity and inclusion liaison working closely with the IUSCCC’s Associate Director of DEI, Dr. Antwione Haywood.
Amanda was most recently at Ivy Tech Indianapolis, where she served as director of development since January 2018. Previously, she served as Ivy Tech’s director of foundation relations for nearly five years. Amanda is also an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech, teaching English composition and argumentative writing.

Paula Pettis-Garrett has been named the survivorship and recruitment branch leader with the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (OCOE). She is responsible for providing guidance, coordination, and support in the implementation of all OCOE program activities associated with survivorship through community partnerships. She also will provide a critical link to increase clinical trial recruitment by working with patient navigators.
Paula was most recently with IU Health West, where she served as a supplemental social worker and on-call chaplain. Concurrently, she served as the associate pastor at Avon Christian Church. Paula holds dual master’s degrees: a Master of Social Work and a Master of Divinity. She also is a licensed clinical social worker in Indiana.

Kelsey Turner has been named the director of communications and community outreach of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (OCOE). Kelsey is responsible for leading all outreach and in-reach activities of the OCOE, with an emphasis on outreach to marginalized communities. In collaboration with program leaders, she will develop and implement cancer site-specific awareness and behavior change campaigns consistent with OCOE programming priorities.
Kelsey most recently served as the marketing and communications manager for the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, where she led event marketing and communications, social media, digital marketing, and graphic design efforts.
