I have the expertise and strong motivation to effectively perform the proposed research project. I am an analytical chemist with a strong emphasis on nanoparticle synthesis and characterization. This research project is tightly connected to my scholarly goal to develop innovative and multidisciplinary research programs at the interface between chemistry, nanotechnology, and medicine. We use unique shape-dependent localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties of metallic nanoparticles to design novel, ultrasensitive, label-free plasmonic biosensors. I have broad experience in synthesis and characterization of metallic nanoparticles with different sizes and shapes, and also design very sensitive molecular and biological sensors. As a corresponding author on several peer-reviewed publications and co-investigator on a university-funded grant, I laid the groundwork of the proposed research by developing LSPR-based sensors in assaying several different types of biomolecules. In summary, I have demonstrated successful and productive research in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology, which enables me to ensure that the plasmonic-based microRNA sensor design is carried out successfully in my laboratory to find early diagnostic for cancers and other diseases.
