Clinical: I have significant interest in clinical trials research and am currently the PI on two trials open currently at the IUSCCC and am interested in assisting Dr. Landrum in opening Phase 1 trials within our division. I am also starting to work on a gynecologic cancer tissue bank for future clinical studies. Translational: Significant strides have been made recently in the treatment of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer as well as the prevention of this disease for carriers of high-risk genetic mutations. However, there is limited research into the effects of surgical removal of the gynecologic organs and treatment with chemotherapy on physical function, bone, and muscle health in the short and long term. There is also limited data regarding frailty on ovarian cancer treatment outcomes and survivorship. My translational project interests would aim to evaluate multiple parameters of physical function, frailty, bone, and muscle health in both ovarian cancer survivors as well as those with high-risk genetic mutations undergoing risk reducing surgery. We would use data collected within our division as well as that of the musculoskeletal FIT core established at Indiana University. The long-term goal would be to also develop a mouse model that aligns with our investigational hypotheses.
