I am cardiologist with training in cardiovascular imaging and cell biology. My goal is to identify early imaging based biomarkers of cardiovascular disease which includes atherosclerosis, plaque rupture, myocardial dysfunction and valvular disease. As a clinician who treats cancer patients with cardiac disease, I am developing a research program that investigates how cancer and chemotherapy can affect vascular function in cardiac and skeletal muscle. The ultimate goal is to use diet, exercise and pharmacologic interventions to improve vascular and cardiac health in cancer patients with special focus on racial minority populations in whom the combined effects of risk factors for cancer and cardiovascular disease can produce unfavorable clinical outcomes.
