My overarching research interests are to employ precision medicine approaches to improve medication outcomes in patients with cancer. My research directions include projects related to precision medicine discovery (i.e., identifying novel applications for precision medicine in cancer patients) and precision medicine implementation (i.e., implementing clinical interventions to translate existing knowledge in order to benefit patients). My primary independent discovery project is to investigate the potential for novel immune-related drug-drug interactions with immune checkpoint inhibitors and co-administered Cytochrome P450 substrate medications. Towards this project, I have foundation grant and NIGMS K23 applications currently under review. My primary implementation project is to develop computational methods to repurpose genomic sequencing data (as is obtained for tumor board patients) to support germline pharmacogenetics for cancer therapies (fluoropyrimidines, thiopurines) and supportive therapies (antiemetics, analgesics, antidepressants, etc.). In the future, I also plan to collaborate with the pharmacy team at IUSCC to incorporate pharmacogenetic results into current medication therapy management/ medication reconciliation clinical services.
