My career over the past 25 years has been devoted to research to improve the health of underserved populations and to training programs that advance the careers of trainees and faculty underrepresented in biomedical disciplines; I am (co-)author more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. In particular, my research has focused on cancer- and smoking related health disparities experienced by African Americans, East African immigrants (esp. Somali Muslims), and persons experiencing homelessness.
