Komen Indianapolis affiliate honors IU Simon Cancer Center breast cancer expert


INDIANAPOLIS -- (March 6, 2009) -- A world renowned oncologist and researcher with the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center recently received an award from the Komen Indianapolis affiliate.

George Sledge, Jr., M.D., Ballve-Lantero Professor of Oncology and co-director of the breast cancer program at the IU Simon Cancer Center, received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Indianapolis affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pink Tie Ball.

The Komen Indianapolis affiliate also presented Lifetime Achievement awards to Joseph Mark and Michael Miller, the creators of Suros ATEC (Automated Tissue Excision and Collection), a patented product system that has become a care standard in breast biopsies and early detection. 

The three recipients are local standouts in the fields of breast cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment.

In its fifth year, the Pink Tie Ball is a signature fundraiser of the Komen Indianapolis affiliate.
