Indianapolis Business Journal honors the late Stephen D. Williams, founding director of IU Simon Cancer Center


INDIANAPOLIS -- (March 6, 2009) -- The late Stephen D. Williams, M.D., the founding director of the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, was posthumously honored for his impact upon cancer patients.

Dr. Williams won the top award in the “physician” category during the Indianapolis Business Journal’s ninth annual Health Care Heroes award program March 4. 

The award honors a physician whose performance on the job is considered exemplary by patients and peers.

Other finalists included Terry G. Horner, M.D., of Indianapolis Neurosurgical Group and Richard L. Schreiner, M.D., of Riley Hospital for Children.

Dr. Williams died of cancer, the very disease to which he dedicated his career, on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009.
