The facts are simple. One in seven Hoosiers who are eligible for lung cancer screening will get lung cancer. But there is hope. If they participate in a lung cancer screening program, their life is likely to be saved by catching the disease early when treatment is most effective.
Lung cancer is, by far, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Indiana for both men and women. It’s true for our Black, Latinx, and white neighbors. It’s true in our cities and rural communities alike.
The statistics are sobering, and the stakes are high. However, we know that these numbers will change for the better because we understand that prevention, early detection, research, and advocacy are effective. By coming together — as individuals, families, and communities — we can change the story of lung cancer in Indiana. Together, we can improve outcomes, save lives, and bring hope to every Hoosier impacted by this disease.
