About End Lung Cancer Now

Changing outcomes and saving lives

Lung cancer is still the leading cause of cancer-related death, taking more lives each year than colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers combined, but that story is changing. Thanks to earlier detection, better treatments, and growing awareness, lung cancer mortality is now declining faster than any other cancer. Today, we have more tools and more power than ever to save lives.

End Lung Cancer Now, an initiative of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, was created in 2021 by a bold group of advocates determined to change the future of this disease. We are an advocate-led, volunteer-powered, and community-driven initiative focused on one mission: to end lung cancer through awareness, action, and hope.

Reduce all modifiable risk factors for lung cancer

Several modifiable risk factors contribute to lung cancer, including smoking, secondhand smoke, radon exposure, occupational hazards, and air pollution.

Know Your Risk

Early Detection

Find lung cancer at its earliest detectable stage

When found early, lung cancer is often highly curable, yet only 16.9% of eligible Hoosiers are getting screened.

Enhance awareness and understanding of lung cancer research

Advances in treatment come only through clinical trials, yet fewer than 5% of eligible patients participate, often because research feels unfamiliar, uncertain, or even intimidating.

5th Annual End Lung Cancer Now Gathering

In the race to beat lung cancer, prevention is the key. In November 2025, the End Lung Cancer Now community gathered to focus on the critical role prevention plays in ending lung cancer. We addressed barriers around tobacco treatment, discussed the importance of radon testing and mitigation, and explored the role that other risk factors play in the development of lung cancer.
