IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center research to be presented at 2026 ASCO, the world’s leading oncology meeting

Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers will share their findings and expertise at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Findings on lung, bladder, breast, prostate, and testicular cancers are among the 45 abstracts by cancer center researchers during the May 29-June 2 meeting in Chicago. As the world’s leading organization of its kind, ASCO brings together oncology professionals from around the world for its annual meeting. The meeting regularly attracts more than 40,000 oncology professionals.
IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center highlights include:
- Patrick Loehrer Sr., MD, is a commissioner and author of The Lancet Oncology’s report on the global workforce crisis. He will present “A Global Workforce Crisis: The Current and Projected Landscape” during an education session on May 31. The full Lancet Oncology report will be released that day.
- Nasser Hanna, MD, chairs and moderates the Lung Cancer—Non-Small Cell Metastatic oral abstract session. Jennifer E. Schwartz chairs and moderates the Medical Education and Professional Development rapid oral abstract session. Both sessions are on May 29.
- Rita Assi, MD, is the chair and moderator for “From Myelodysplastic Syndrome to Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Treatment-Related Myeloid Neoplasm Diagnosis and Therapeutic Strategies” case-based panel on May 30.
- Greg Durm, MD, will present Highlights in Non-Small Cell Metastatic Lung Cancer during a special session on May 31.
- Nabil Adra, MD, is the chair for "How to Optimize Treatment for Patients With Poor-Risk Testicular Cancer," an education session on June 1. During the session, he will present "First-Line Therapy for Patients With Poor Risk Testicular Cancer."
- Misty Shields, MD, PhD, is a discussant for the "Lung Cancer—Non–Small Cell Local-Regional/Small Cell/Other Thoracic Cancers" oral abstract session on June 1. She will present "Bright Spots and Blind Alleys in Small Cell Lung Cancer."
Cancer center members and trainee members are authors on five oral abstracts and symposium sessions and 18 poster abstracts. Another 22 abstracts will be included in the online publication. Each of these research abstracts was selected by the ASCO Scientific Program Committee from thousands of submissions.
