I am interested in improving outcomes in children with cancer. I am a Pediatric Oncologist and Neuro-oncologist. As part of the above broad goal I am specifically interested in the role of angiogenesis in children with cancer and with high grade brain tumors. I have an SRC/IRB approved translational protocol (approved Nov 2007), which is a pilot study funded by the Pediatric protocol development committee part of the Pediatric translational core headed by Scott Denne MD at Riley Hospital for Children, looking at endothelial progenitor cells and their contribution towards tumor angiogenesis in Pediatric cancer. I would like to gain more information about these cells and use them as targets using anti-angiogenic agents. I would also like to collaborate with the researchers in the Wells Center to do translational research in children with high grade brain tumors in order to improve survival and decrease toxicities of treatment. I am also collaborating with Nursing researcher Prof Joanne Haase in improving end of life communication with parents and children with high grade gliomas.
