Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by Kathleen A. Casey in memory of her eight year old son, Barrett "Bear" Krupa, who died after a courageous five and a half year battle with Wilms Tumor. The Foundation is dedicated to the fight against pediatric cancer by improving the quality of life for pediatric cancer patients and their families while furthering advancements in research. E-mail

Pediatric Oncology Resource Center

A web site for parents, friends, and families of children who have or had childhood cancer. This resource center was created by and for people who know young people who are recovering from cancer. Most of the contributors to this site are members of the ACOR pediatric cancer mailing lists, especially ped-onc, ped-onc-survivors, and ALL-kids.

HopeLab

HopeLab, has developed a video game for young people with cancer called Re-Mission™. Research indicates the game Re-Mission improves health-related outcomes for young people with cancer. The game is available free of charge through this Web site to young people with cancer. HopeLab is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for young people living with chronic illness.

This page contains information about scholarships for cancer patients, cancer survivors, children of a cancer patient or survivor, students who lost a parent to cancer, and students pursuing careers in cancer treatment.

Oncology Nursing Society Scholarships

The ONS Foundation established its base of support primarily from corporations and individual members of the Oncology Nursing Society. Since 1982, the Foundation has distributed more than $14 million in research grants, research fellowships, academic scholarships, lectures, public education projects, career development awards, and congress scholarships. Also, the Indiana Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses (IAPON) offers a yearly scholarship; be sure to check early in your senior year of high school for the application.

Children's Special Health Care Services

This primary/supplemental insurance program helps defer the medical costs of children with specific chronic medical conditions such as cancer, sickle cell anemia, and hemophilia. There are also financial guidelines, but the income guidelines are more lenient than other programs. There is a CSHCS office located within Riley Hospital, on the 1st floor across from the Raggedy Man Gift Shop.

The Fertile Hope website gives a comprehensive overview of the fertility risks associated with cancer treatment and the fertility preservation and parenthood options before, during and after treatments.

Clarian Reproductive Lab

The Center for Reproductive Biology of Indiana is an infertility clinic that used state of the art reproductive technologies. They are interested in doing sperm banking prior to chemotherapy as well as helping with infertility issues after treatment for both men and women.

National Cancer Institute, Office of Survivorship

The mission of the Office of Cancer Survivorship (OCS) is to enhance the quality and length of survival of all persons diagnosed with cancer and to minimize or stabilize adverse effects experienced during cancer survivorship. The Office of Cancer Survivorship conducts and supports research that both examines and addresses the long and short- term physical, psychological, social, and economic effects of cancer and its treatment among pediatric and adult survivors of cancer and their families.
