Keeping Your Sanity
Mark on your calendar all of the treatments (chemo, radiation, and surgeries) you receive and when, how often as well as when you go to the hospital. It may seem like you'd never forget about it now, but someday you might need to know one of these things again and it's easier to have it written down so that you can quickly find the answer.
Take a friend or relative with you to your doctor appointments and ask them to take notes during the visit so that you'll have an accurate record of what was said.
Record a daily health status report as the outgoing message on your answering machine to get the news to concerned friends and relatives without having to repeat yourself. Telemarketers will get the hint also.
Don't be afraid to unplug your phone if you need to sleep! People can call back. They probably don't want to talk to you when you feel bad anyways.
See your dentist for a thorough checkup and cleaning prior to starting treatment. Once your counts start going down, treating dental problems becomes much more complicated.
If your treatment is really hitting you hard, ask your doctor about getting a temporary handicapped parking permit for your car.
Try to exercise during treatment, even if it's just a walk around the block. It helps soothe both mental and physical distress.
Play The Cancer Game! It's a side-scrolling, arcade-style, cancer-fighting video game that's fun for all ages. Now you have more than one way to fight cancer. Go to www.cancergame.org for a free download.
