Beating Side Effects
Constipation can be a problem. Try drinking Senna tea, prune juice, or taking magnesium tablets. These should help loosen things up, unclogging your intestinal pipes.
If you've been feeling sick from the chemo, make sure to take some barf bags with you wherever you go. You never know when it's time to spew.
Go sample lotions. Find your favorite one and use it after your radiation treatments. Aquaphor seems to be really good for dry, irritated skin.
Some chemo drugs can cause a nasty taste in your mouth. Try sucking on candy or popsicles before, during and after treatment. However, just be careful; if the chemo drugs make you sick, you may never want to eat that again. So, don't eat your very favorite thing, because it will always be marked by the chemo taste and become difficult to eat.
To help prevent mouth sores: add 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, and a splash of hydrogen peroxide to 8 oz. warm water. Swish around in your mouth religiously after meals and before bedtime. Be sure to spit it back out.
