Support Staff
Social Worker
A social worker helps you adjust to your illness, helps with access to hospital and community resources and deal with problems. They also help arrange tutoring and communicating with your school.
Child Life Specialist
A child life specialist is a child development expert who offers age-appropriate activities. In some hospitals, child life specialists supervise activity rooms and coordinate activities.
Nutritionists
Registered dieticians are knowledgeable about the nutritional needs of oncology patients. They are nutrition experts who evaluate eating patterns and problems and recommend nutritional options.
Physical Therapists
Individuals with advanced training in how the body functions and moves, who may help you with specific problems related to your cancer or its treatment is a physical therapist. After surgery, you may need to see a physical therapist to help strengthen your muscles and re-learn how to properly move your affected limb.
Phlebotomists
Phlebotomists are individuals who draw your blood when you do not have a central venous catheter. They draw blood from your vein and then take it to a lab to be tested.
