Symptoms

Cancer can cause a variety of symptoms which may include:

  • Thickening or lump in the breast or elsewhere in the body
  • Obvious change in wart or mole
  • A sore that does not heal
  • Nagging cough or hoarseness
  • Changes in bowel or bladder habits
  • Indigestion or problems with swallowing
  • Unexplained changes in weight
  • Unusual bleeding or discharge

Having one of these warning signs may not mean you have cancer; it may be caused by other problems such as an infection or non-cancerous tumor.  However, it is important to talk to the doctor about any of these changes before they become painful. Pain is rarely a sign of early cancer.

Also, it is also important to see your doctor regularly. You can check yourself for breast, testicular, skin or oral cancers, but your doctor may be able to detect early warning signs of certain cancer before you do.
